Legend goes that some kids who were swimming discovered chengalamma idol in the nearby river and carried it to the present place. There will be festivals called tirunallu periodically. Thousands of individuals from nearby villages are participating during this moment.
During this ‘ tirunallu, ‘ a goat is attached to one end of the pole for one day and is circled in the air in front of the temple. Hence the name Sullurpeta, this method is called “sullu.” Besides the ‘ sullu, ‘ there is also ‘ teppotsavam ‘ where Sri Chengalamma’s idol will be performed on a “teppa,” a ship, in the river Kalangi, which flows close to the temple.
