Sri Chennakesava Swamy Temple is situated in Markapur, Prakasam District, which is a renowned lord sri mahavishnu temple. Temple is on the banks of the Gundlakamma River. The Sri Mahavishnu in Chennakesava swami’s divine form and saw Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi with his consort. The lord Mahavishnu called the demon “kesi” as kesava because of the killing.

Markapur Chennakesava Swamy Temple History:

The Chennakesava temple’s primary unique attraction is 135-foot Rajagopuram. The Markapur Chennakesava Swamy Temple  has a massive 135-foot-high galigopuram seen from a distance of 5 km from the temple. The other appeal is 40 mandapam pills. There are 40 Mandapam plundered with a complex carving of deities such as Lord Srikrishna, Lord Anjaneya and Vighneswara, Godess Mahalakshmi with their Vahana’s.

The Sri Lakshmi Chennakesava Swamy temple, constructed between 1405-1459 A.D. by the Vijayanagar rulers, is also a famous pilgrim destination.

There are six musical pillars in the Kalyana Mandapam that generate the 7 musical notes when tapped. The temple’s distinctive characteristic is that every year, from December 16th to January 14th, the sun’s rays at dawn enter the sanctum sanctorm, through specially positioned windows, and fall at the deity’s feet.
