Samarlakota Temple:

Samarlkota is 12 kilometers from Kakinada, 52 kilometers from Rajahmundry. Bhimavaram, now part of the town of Samalkot, is known as Bhimavara Kshetram with its famous Kumarama – Bhimesvara temple. From the inscriptions found in the temple, the village was known in the past as Chalukya Bhimavaram.
One of the five Pancharama Kshetras sacred to the Hindu god Shiva is Kumararama or Bhimarama. The bhimeswara temple samalkot is located in East Godavari district Samarlkota in Andhra Pradesh’s Indian state. Amararama in Amaravati (Dist. Guntur), Draksharama in Draksharama (Dist. East Godavari), Ksheerarama in Palakollu and Somarama in Bahimavaram (both in Dist. West Godavari) are the other four temples.

Samarlakota Temple History:

Samarlakota City is 1 kilometer away from the temple. Installed in the shrine, the Linga limestone is 16 feet tall, rising from the ground floor pedestal and entering the second floor by entering the roof where the Rudrabhaga is adorned. The samalkot bhimeswara temple is backed by a mandapam of 100 pillars and is of excellent architectural significance. This temple is one of the famous temples in samarlakota.
The temple has an Ekasila Nandi (A Bull sculpted from a single stone) at the temple door protecting the Shiva Lingam. The temple is similar to the other temple of Pancharama at Draksharama, also called Bhimeswara Alayam. There’s a mantap called Koneti on the east side. Here you can see Pushkarni (Koneru) lake.

The samarlakota shiva temple construction began in 892 AD and was completed in 922.here the Linga is made of calcareous and appears white. The temple was rebuilt during Musunuri Nayaks from 1340–1466. Musunuri Nayaks adopts the Kakatiya style of architecture. The goddess is also known here as the Sundari Bala Tripura.

Samarlakota Temple Timings: Samalkot kumara bhimeswara temple timings are from 6 am to 12 pm in the morning and from 4 pm to 8 pm in the afternoon.

By Road: Samarlakota is 15 kms from kakinada, 49 kms from rajahmundry, 125 kms from visakhapatnam.

By Train: Trains is available at Vijayawada – Howrah broad gauge railway.

By Air: Visakhapatnam is the nearest international airport. and Rajahmundry is nearest domestic airport.

Festivals at Samalkot Kumara Bhimeswara Temple:
Abhisheka is performed daily for months during November – December (Karthika and Margashira masam). During February – March (Magha Bahula Ekadashi day) moment there will be Utsavam (Kalyana Mahotsam). It is possible to see great festivities in the temple of Till Maha Shivarathri.
