Venkatagiri is a town in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh district of Nellore. It is a municipality and mandals headquarters of Venkatagiri Mandal. The ancient name of Venkatagiri is “Kali Mili”. Venkatagiri is a historical and hand-held location. It was component of an Indian Republic incorporated tiny kingdom.

Venkatagiri History:

Originally known as Kalimilli until the 17th century, Vekatagiri was governed under the Vijaynagar Empire by Gobburi Polygars. They were defeated by Recherla Venkatadri Naidu, Madurantakam’s Nayak and Velugodu’s Raja cousin, another vassal of Vijayanagar’s Aravidu dynasty under Venkatapathi Raya II. The town has been renamed Venkatagiri. The Velogothi leaders moved their capital to Venkatagiri by the mid-seventeenth century and it lasted as a Zamindari until independence. It was situated between two rivers I.e kaivalya river and godderu river.

Venkatagiri Fort:

Venkatagiri Fort (Venkatagiri Durgam) was built in 1775 AD and is very famous with visitors who visit the fort to witness its splendor and magnificence. Indra Mahal is the front component of the fort, which looks really attractive. The fort is perfect for those interested in history and historic sightseeing.

Venkatagiri Population:

Since the census of India in 2001 Venkatagiri Mandal had a 200,000 population. Venkatagiri Rural is made up of 58 villages of revenue. By combining Venkatagiri, ChevireddiPalli, Periyavaram, Bangarupet, Ammavaripet, and Manulalapet Panchayats, Venkatagiri became a municipality in 6-1-2005. The total population of the municipality is 52,478. The average literacy rate in Venkatagiri is 67%, greater than the domestic average of 59.5%. Municipality’s total area is 23.50 km2.

Venkatagiri Education:

Primary and secondary school education is delivered under the State Department of School Education by govt, aided and private schools. English, Telugu, is the medium of instruction followed by various colleges. In Venkatagiri Town, AP Residential School, RVM High School, RVRKY ZP Girls High School, AP Residential Junior College, IIHT, Visvodaya Govt College and ESS Degree Colleges are very old. In Venkatagiri, Kendriya Vidhyalaya, there is also a central government college.
