Bhadrachalam Temple:
Badhrachalam is well-known for the Badhrachalam Sri Rama Temple(Bhadrachalam Temple), which is situated on the banks of the Godavari River. Badhrachalam is a town in Telangana’s Bhadradri District.
It is a Hindu pilgrimage site, regarded as one of the most important holy shrines in South India, with a rich and unique historical background. The temple was built in the 17th century by Kancharla Gopanna, popularly known as Bhakta Ramadas, a devout devotee of Lord Sree Rama.
Bhadrachalam Temple History
The history of sree seetha ramachandra swamy vari devasthanam can be traced back to the 17th century, when one Bhakta Ramadasa named Gopanna served as a Tahsildar in the Kingdom of Golconda, which was ruled by Abdul Hassan Tanah Shah. Ramadasa was a devout follower of Lord Sri Rama. He used government tax funds to renovate Bhadrachalam Temple and had several items of gold and valuable jewels made to decorate the temple’s idols without the permission of his higher authority. As it was an offence against the king, the Nizam imprisoned him and kept him in Golconda Fort. In prison, he wrote many poems in praise of Lord Rama and in response to Lord Rama’s silence on his imprisonment for his devoted services to the Lord. Lord Rama appeared in Tanah Shah’s dream and returned the amount spent by Ramadasa. As a result, the Nizam bestowed special grants on Bhadrachalam Devasthanam.
