The temple is in Karmanghat, adjacent to Santoshnagar and the Nagarjuna Sagar Ring Road.
Karmanghat Hanuman Temple History:
Hanuman Temple Karmanghat was constructed in the 12th century A.D. When the Kakatiya monarch Prola II was out hunting and resting under a tree, he heard Lord Rama’s name being chanted. In the midst of a deep forest, he discovered a stone idol of God Hanuman in sat posture, as well as the voice coming from the vigraha. He went to his capital after paying his respects, and that night, the Lord appeared in his dream and urged him to build a temple.
Aurangzeb dispatched forces to all areas of the kingdom in order to expand the Mughal Empire. The soldiers couldn’t even go near the compound wall at this temple. When the general informed Aurangzeb of this, he went to the temple with a crowbar and broke it down. At the temple’s entrance, he heard a loud roar rumbling like thunder, and the crowbar slid from his grip as he shook in horror. Then he heard a voice from above saying, “Mandir todna hai, to karo man ghat” (translation: “If you want to break down the temple, harden your heart.”) This is why the location is known as Kar-man-ghat. Lord Anjaneya, as Dhyana Anjaneya Swamy, sits calmly meditating and blessing devotees till this day.
The karmanghat hanuman is particularly famous among Hyderabad followers. Every week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, devotees give prayers and religious ceremonies to Lord Hanuman at the temple. Devotees flock to the temple in great numbers on the auspicious day of Hanuman Jayanti to give special pooja to the Lord and celebrate his birthday. The hanuman temple karmanghat administration serves “annadanam,” or free meals, to a restricted number of individuals on all days of the year. Lord Anjaneya, as Dhyana Anjaneya Swamy, sits calmly meditating and blessing devotees till this day.
