On the other hand, the other two main deities are Sitaramji and Jankiji. It is one of the most sought after and most visited Hindu temples in Alwar. This special temple is visited with great faith and devotion throughout the year.

Importance of Jagannath Temple

Jagannath Temple is located in the old part of Alwar city. It is actually very famous for the Rathayatra festival, which is held with devotion every year, where Lord Jagannath is successfully carried in a chariot called Indra Vimanam. It must be remembered that the chariot which is said to be an elephant vehicle was regularly used by the Alwar kings. It was later donated to the temple and regularly used for Ratha Yatra. This particular Rathotsavam definitely follows different customs and traditions than in Puri of Orissa state. In Alwar, Rathayatra is part and parcel of the annual marriage ceremony between Lord Jagannath and Goddess Jankiji. The temple attracts a large number of visitors and tourists, devotees and pilgrims flock to the temple every day during the annual Rath Yatra festival. The city of Alwar lives in this shrine on most of the festival and auspicious celebration days.

The main deities of Garbhagriha, Sitaramji, Jagannath and Jankiji are fully enshrined in the main sanctum of this temple. The presence of these deities in their decorated form in the main sanctum is truly a magnificent sight. The chapel is filled with huge sized pillars which are beautifully and attractively carved with floral design patterns to perfection. The ceiling and flooring of this mediaeval period temple are indeed very attractive in many respects. Most of the sub-temples in the temple complex are arranged in a systematic manner. The vimana or tower of this temple is medium in height when compared to other Hindu temples in the region. According to Sthala Puranas, it is strongly believed that this temple was built according to the Vastushastra of the time in a powerful manner with proper blend of devotional elements.
