Dagdusheth Halwai Ganapati is also known as Srimanth Dagadushet Halwai Ganapati temple sits in the heart of Pune amidst the heavy traffic and bustling streets. As you enter the temple, loud chants of ‘Ganapati Bappa Moriya’ surround you and your eyes fall on the beautiful Dagdushet statue in the main mandapam. You can’t help but be amazed at how beautiful the Maharashtrian goddess is, covered in gold.

This Dagadushet Ganapati temple was built by Dagdushet Godve in memory of his late son. Godve, a halwai (sweet maker) was a devotee of Ganesha and built this temple in his ancestral mansion at Budhwar Peth.

Dagdusheth Halwai History:

Shri Dagdushet Halwai is a famous sweet maker in Maharashtra who originally hails from Karnataka and migrated to Maharashtra in the mid 1800s. He is a successful confectioner and a rich businessman. Tragedy struck when he and his wife lost their son to a plague. The Couple were devastated by their loss and were advised by their guru shri Madhavanath Maharaj to build a temple that was dedicated to Lord Ganesh. The temple was completed in the late 1800s, 125 years ago today. People like Sri Tatyasaheb Godse, Sri Mamasaheb Rasne, Sri Shankarrao Suryavanshi and Sri Kashinath Rasne who were the founding trustees of the temple played a great role in making the temple a great place for festival celebrations in Maharashtra.

Lord Ganesh idol

This Dagadusheth Halwai Ganapati temple construction is simple and beautiful and mainly devotees can easily catch a glimpse of the Lord Ganesh idol and watch the Aarti and pooja rituals even from the road. In Dagdusheth Ganpati Idol is 7.5 feet tall and 4 feet wide. The Ganapati idol has a solid gold ear and is adorned with around 8 kg of gold. A Ganesh idol, adorned with gold and jewellery worth 1 crore.
