The famous Devi Talab Mandir is located in the heart of Jalandhar city in Punjab, India. It is also called as Jalandhar Devi Talab Temple. Legend has it that Ma Sati committed suicide after her father Daksha insulted her husband Shiva. Enraged by this, Lord Shiva opened his terrible third eye and took his beloved Sati in his arms and danced a terrible tandava on the earth. The gods feared that Shiva’s anger would destroy the universe and they sought the help of Vishnu, who sent his all-powerful discus – the Sudarshana Chakra – to dismember Sati’s body. Every place on earth that got a part of our Sati Devi’s body became a place of worship for devotees of Goddess. Each of these places is revered as a Shakti Peetha by devotees of the Goddess, also known as Shaktis. Devi Talab Mandir is recognized as one of the 51 prominent Shakti Peethas of the Indian subcontinent.
Architecture of Devi Talab Mandir Jalandhar
Devi Talab Mandir is the most prominent place in Jalandhar city and is a magnificent and spacious structure. The apex of the Grabha Griha pyramid is covered with gold plates. The temple has an old tank which is considered sacred by devotees. In the center of the pond is a temple of Goddess Durga. Goddess Kali Temple and Surya Temple are also located in the premises. The temple is similar to the Amarnath cave temple in Jammu and Kashmir.
