Bugga Ramalingeswara Swamy Temple – Tadipatri:
A Siva temple named Bugga Ramalingeswara Swamy is located in Tadipatri, Anantapur district, Andhra Pradesh, India, on the southern bank of the Penna river.
A linga that is thought to be “swayambhu” (naturally occurring or self-originating) serves as the presiding deity. In front of the Vishnu shrine in the temple, there are seven little independent pillars that, when struck, make the “saptaswara” (the seven musical notes). James Anderson, an architectural historian, called the temple’s incomplete gopurams “wonders.”
Bugga Ramalingeswara Swamy Temple History:
Pemmasani Ramalinga Nayudu I, a chieftain of the Gutti-Gandikota region during the rule of the Vijayanagara Empire, constructed it between 1490 and 1509 years ago.
The temple is made up of an axially aligned sanctum, ardha mandapa, and mukhamandapa. Bas relief sculptures depicting scenes from the Ramayana and Mahabharata can be found in the temple. ‘Swayambhu’ (naturally existing or self-originated) describes the reigning god (linga). The Shiva linga faces west at this temple, in contrast to typical Hindu temples where the deities are east-facing. The seven pillars in front of the Vishnu shrine form a musical scale called ‘saptaswara’ when struck.
The gopurams of this temple were called “wonders” by architectural historian James Anderson.
