A story about the making of this Mariamman temple is told. It claims that every Tuesday, traders from Coimabatore traveled to this area to conduct business with the native tribals. One day, two sisters who were traveling from the north arrived at the market. Their manners and appearance were divine. They were instructed to remain beneath a nearby tree when they requested a place to stay. The sisters’ status as goddesses was unknown to them. The sisters vanished when a flash of light or lightning struck close to the tree. After realizing that the sisters were celestial forms, the people constructed a temple for the goddesses Kaliamman and Mariamman. Today, we saw the Mariamman temple.
