Deo Surya Mandir Bihar:
In Bihar, India, there is a Hindu temple called Deo Surya Mandir. The temple is a solar shrine that honours Surya, the sun god, for Chhath Puja. The temple is situated in Deo Town, Aurangabad, in the Indian State of Bihar. The Temple is distinctive since it faces west, the dying sun rather than the more typical rising sun. It is regarded as one of the most holy locations for Chhath Puja and sun worship.
Deo Surya Mandir History:
Lord Vishwakarma allegedly completed the Deo Sun Temple in a single night, according to oral legend. The Deo Sun Temple is not specifically mentioned in a gupta era inscription from 642 AD that discusses sun worship. The existence of a temple around the 7th or 8th century AD is suggested by a few inscriptions and local oral tales.
Its recorded history dates back to the pala and senua eras, and an inscription dated 1437 records King Bhairavendra’s consecration of the template. The inscription claims that the temple was saved from destruction after Muhammad bin Bakhtiyar Khalji’s invasion of Bengal by the local Hindu chieftains, and it also mentions twelve of King Bhairavendra’s predecessors. Since most sun temples are oriented towards the rising sun, some academics argue that this structure was formerly a Buddhist temple that Muhammad bin Bakhtiyar Khalji later destroyed before being transformed into a sun temple by Bhairavendra.
Architecture:
The temple is a combination of Vesara, Dravidian, and Nagri architectural styles. Above the Dev Sun Temple, a gold urn is positioned on top of a dome-shaped carving.
Festival:
The temple is well-known for celebrating the Chhath festival every year. Many thousands of devotees from Bihar and other areas come to the temple to worship, participate in the Chhath Mela, take a dip in the sacred Surya Kund, and offer arghya.
