Hutheesing Jain Temple Ahmedabad:
A Jain temple called Hutheesing Temple is located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. It was built by the Hutheesing family in 1848. The Hutheesing Jain temple‘s design combines contemporary haveli architectural features with the traditional Maru-Gurjara temple architectural style.

Hutheesing Jain Temple History:
Hutheesing Kesarisinh, a wealthy trader from Ahmedabad, was the one who first designed and started the construction of the temple. His wife Harkunwar oversaw and finished the work after he passed away at the age of 49. Roughly ₹10 lakh rupees was the overall cost. Premchand Salat was the main architect of the temple. The Delhi Darwaza is not where the temple is located.
Muganbhai Hutheesing, the son of Sheth Hutheesing, had Lockwood de Forest, a business partner, estimate the cost at “over a million dollars”. In Gujarat, there was a terrible famine when the temple was constructed. Hundreds of talented craftspeople were engaged to build the temple, providing them with two years of support.
A family trust led by the Hutheesings oversees the temple.
Hutheesing Jain Temple Architecture:
In creating the temple, Salat combined contemporary haveli architectural features with the architectural style of ancient temples. It bears numerous similarities to Bhadreshwar and Ranakpur and is constructed in the Māru-Gurjara style. White marble was used to build the temple.
The main gateway porch has carved balustrades, spanning balconies, chabutras, jalis, and adorned walls, all typical of a wooden haveli architecture.
This kind of temple, known as nirandhara-prasada, lacks an ambulatory passage. The temple faces west and is constructed on a huge platform. The main temple consists of three sanctuaries that are lined up: the entryway, the gudhamandapa (closed shrine hall with porches), the sabhamandapa (assembly hall), and the garbhagriha (sanctum). Each sanctuary has its own shikhara. The main temple has two floors and 52.5 meters high. There are three elaborate spires on the east end of the garbhagriha. Twelve elaborate pillars support the gudhamandapa’s massive, ridged dome. Three outer sides of the huge projecting porches are adorned with elaborate columns and brackets featuring figures.
The central shrine of the temple houses the marble image of the fifteenth Jain Tirthankara, Dharmanatha. Eleven gods are housed in the main temple; six are in the basement and five are in the three-bay sanctuary.There are three domes on the porch and the outside mandapa. The decoration is “sharply sculpted” and abundant, “but figures appear only at the brackets”.
An open courtyard with a colonnaded cloister housing 52 devakulikas (secondary shrines), each with a picture of a deity, encircles the main temple.
The temple is renowned for its rainwater harvesting design as well.
Hutheesing Jain Temple Timings:
The temple is open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. At eight in the morning, Aarti is performed. The temple closes for lunch from 1:00 to 2:00.

Festivals Celebrated at Hutheesing Jain Temple:
Paryushan and Mahavir Jayanti are two of the temple’s main celebrations. Every year, the Jains celebrate Paryushan, an eight- to ten-day event during which they fast, meditate, and pray.
In this auspicious temple, the 24th Tirthankara, Lord Mahavira, is also celebrated on his birthday, Mahavir Jayanti. The pilgrims also plan a parade honoring Lord Mahavira. For Jains, Diwali is a significant holiday commemorating Lord Mahavira’s nirvana. Paush Dashami, Maun-agiyara, and Gyan Panchami are among the other holidays observed.
