About Penchalakona Temple :

Sri Penusila Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple (Penchalakona Temple) is located at Penchalakona in the Andhra Pradesh district of Nellore. Penchalakona is a village in Andhra Pradesh, India, 70 km west of Nellore, in the Rapur Mandal district of Nellore. The village’s complete population consists of several Hindus Cast, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes sub-communities. Agriculture, agricultural labor, and other traditional occupations are the people’s major means of living. The Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple Penusila is located at the foot of Hill to the Penchalakona Valley.

Penchalakona Temple History:

Avatar of Vishnu, usually 4th of the 10 main avatars. Lord Vishnu took Narasimha avatar to kill Hiranyakasipa. Goddess Sridevi went in a disguise of Chenchu Lakshmi (name of a tribe living in that region), the king’s daughter for that tribe, to calm Narasimha Swamy’s anger. Lord married Chenchu Lakshmi and became the tribe’s Son in Law. In this temple, therefore, Chenchu tribes are provided significance. Lord looks like he’s hugging Chechu Lakshmi (penavasukovatam), so he’s called Penusila Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy. It is called Penchula Narasimha as days pass by.

The Lord’s picture is self-manifest (SWAYAMBHU). Two rocks twisted from the top of a Lion’s Head. Therefore the Lord is called “PENUSILA LAKSHMI NARASIMHA SWAMY” In Telugu “PENU” means “twist” and “SILA” means stone.

Penchalakona Temple Story:

Gollaboyadu used to go to the Kona every day to graze his cattle from Gonupalli on a regular basis. One day, Boyadu saw an old man telling him that he was founded in Kona by Penusila Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy. He told boyadu to go directly to the head of the village and inform this miracle. He also told the villagers to be instructed by boyadu. But as he was pinched by tendency, he turned back to see the ancient guy. The old guy converted himself into a rock to his amazement.

The village head dreamed of the situation after some time and accepted the miracle to be true. Then, a temple was built by the village head and Archakas was assigned to conduct Pooja frequently to the Deity. Every year from Vysakha Suddha Dwadasi to Bahula Padyami, Sri Penusila Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy as the Penchala Swamy festival is celebrated for five days. Devotees are fulfilling their vows and giving the Deity hair. It is an ancient festival restricted to nearby districts like Cuddapah and Nellore.

The Utsava deities (Narasimha Swamy and Lakshmi Devi) will perform Kalyanam. Couples for the family well-being used to participate in the Seva. kalyanam is usually performed in search of the divine blessings for the happy married life and the prosperity of all humanity. Kalyanam involves Pratisara Bandhana, Agnipratishta, Vastra Samarpana, Maha Sankalpam, Kanyadanam, Mangalya Dharana and Varanamayiram.

Kalyanam is conducted every day. Tickets can be bought over the counter an hour in advance.
