Kapila Theertham Temple

Kapila Theertham is a renowned Saivite Temple and Theertham, situated in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, India’s Chittoor district. Kapila Muni believes that the idol is placed and Lord Siva is referred to here as Kapileswara.

About Kapila Theertham:

The Kapila Theertham Temple stands at the entrance to a mountain cave in one of the steep and vertical faces at the foot of the Tirumala mountains that are part of Seshachalam Hills, where the mountain stream waters fall straight into Pushkarini Temple known as “Kapila Theertham”.an enormous stone statue of a “Nandhi” sitting bull, the steed of Shiva, at the temple entrance greets devotees and passersby.

The Kapila Theertham Tirupati temple holds all major shaivism festivals including Maha Shivaratri, Karthika Deepam, Vinayaka Chavithi, Adi Kartika, etc. Kapileswara Swamy Brahmotsavams is the temple’s largest event held in February by TTD

Kapila Theertham Temple History:

Although the importance of this temple has declined to owe to the extremely popular nearby Temples in Tirumala and Tiruchanoor, it got very strong patronage from the Kings of Vijayanagara in the 13th and 16th centuries, particularly from Saluva Narasimha Deva Raya and the eternally renowned Sri Krishna Deva Raya and some of the subsequent rulers such as Venkatapathi Raya and Aliya Ramaraya, Sri Krishna Deva Raya Son-in-law.

Legend: The Lingam is thought to be self-manifested. Kapila muni is thought to have emerged from the Bilam(Cavity) in the Pushkarini(Theertham) onto the earth.

Sri Kapileswara Swamy Temple stands majestically at the foot of Tirumala Hills at Kapila Theertham. This temple is only 4 km away from the Tirupati Bus stand. It is about 5 km from Tirupati Railway Station.
