Sri Govindaraja Swamy Temple Tirupati:

Sri Govindaraja Swamy Temple Tirupati is one of the most famous and ancient temples in the heart of the Temple City-Tirupati. This  Govindaraja Perumal Temple Tirupati was consecrated in 1130 AD by St. Ramanujacharya, known as Sri Vaishnab. Before Lord Sri Govindaraja Swamy, the presiding deity of this temple was Sri Parthasarathi Swamy.

The regular rituals in this  Govindaraja Swamy Temple Tirupati are conducted according to “Vaikhanasa Agama.” The rituals, festivals and functions of this temple are conducted in accordance with the rituals performed at the Srivari Temple in Tirumala.

Govindaraja Swamy Temple Tirupati History:

When the Muslim kings, the presiding deity of Chidambaram, invaded South India, Sri Govindaraja Swamy was brought in and kept safe in Tirupati. After the situation in Chidambaram returned to normal, the vigraham of Lord Sri Govindaraja Swamy was taken back from Tirupati to Chidambaram.

One day, in his dream, Sri Ramanujacharya had a vision of Lord Govindaraja Swamy. The Lord was advised to make arrangements for Him to live in Tirupati. Sri Ramanujacharya, until then, was aware of Sri Govindaraja Swamy ‘s stay in Tirupati during the Muslim invasion.He visited the place he saw in his dream with the aid of the King. To their astonishment, the vigraham of Lord Govindaraja Swamy was found in that spot. Sri Ramanujacharya advised the king to create a temple for the Lord and houses for the people who perform kainkaryam in the Swamy temple of Sri Govindaraja.

Govindaraja Swamy Temple Tirupati  Architecture:

This temple is a remarkable achievement of ancient southern Indian architecture. It is a tall and impressive seven-storied outer Gopuram with 11 kalasas dated back to the 14th-15th century. This temple is one of the great temples in the district of Chittoor. This Gopuram is enriched by handwork depicting scenes from the life of Bhagavata, Ramayana and Lord Sri Venkateswara.

The high primary Gopuram is followed by a smaller but no less remarkable inner Gopuram. The inner Gopuram holds a beautiful courtyard with a spacious inner stone hall that protects the devotees even during busy festival times.

Generally, the temple is opened daily at 5 a.m. with Suprabhata Seva and closed at 9 p.m. with Ekantha Seva.
